Financial planning charitable foundation Future2 is a step closer to gaining full operational status, with the NSW Office of Charities granting the project fundraising authority.

Future2 taskforce chair Ray Griffin said the foundation, which will help the financially underprivileged is now open to sponsorship.

"It's open to company sponsorship now. Sponsorship would be great to get it up and running," Griffin said.

"Once we receive the next stage of deductible gift recipient status, we'll start contacting members. In some respects we want the FPA chapters to be eye and ears," he said.

"We will be actively encouraging chapters to bring forward issues. We're also looking to be involved in pro-bono advice to people."

As well as gaining the authority, Future2 has also brought Telstra's Dr Michael Neary in as a board member.

Neary's hire to the board as an independent director follows an extensive search and interview process.

He is industry director financial services at Telstra Enterprise and Government.

Neary holds a doctorate in business administration and has worked in market development and strategic roles in the financial services industry.

Neary joins four other board members: Ray Griffin, FPA chair Corinna Dieters, David Haintz and Peter Bobbin.

Future2 will be formally launched in November at the FPA convention in Sydney.
