Young equities manager Ben Hare has won a world trip as the 2007 IFSA/Deloitte Future Leaders Award winner.
Goldman Sachs JBWere equities manager Ben Hare is the winner of the 2007 Investment and Financial Services Association/Deloitte Future Leaders Award.
This year, 13 future industry leaders responded to some of the industry's most challenging public policy issues, which IFSA and Deloitte determined to be global life insurance distribution, climate change or superannuation and retirement income streams.
The task was to prepare a 4000-word research paper on one of the above topics.
"The IFSA board and Deloitte felt that it was important that the topics selected for the awards reflected current priority issues facing the Australian financial services industry," IFSA deputy chief executive John O'Shaughnessy said.
"The IFSA/Deloitte Future Leaders Awards are a tremendous opportunity for the financial services industry to encourage young people to have a say in the future direction of the industry and its response to a range of current issues."
The judging panel decided Ben Hare's winning entry addressed the implications of climate change, its impact on direct and indirect property investments and how companies are valued, the quality of corporate bonds and how any government or market responses would impact on the investment industry.
"It is a sophisticated industry that is prepared to examine new ways to improve its practices to the benefit of the consumer," Deloitte lead wealth management partner Sarah Woodhouse said.
"And in particular to listen to the Gen Y perspective, working with our own young people and the industry's future leaders, to explore new and innovative ideas," she said.
The trip is designed to give the winner the opportunity to be mentored by a Deloitte global leader.
However, in the area of climate change, two of Deloitte's top talent are on Hare's doorstep - Duncan Buckeridge in Melbourne and Lorraine Stephenson in Brisbane.
